I have been growing some in a container that has standing water and the plants are growing quite nicely. I have seen them growing in very wet places on the side of the road in Arkansas. One problem we have is snails that love to eat the flowers and leaves. My yard is a haven for a diospera of algerian snails. I am trying to get along with them as best i can, even though they do spoil some of my daffodil and iris blooms. I am really opposed to laying down pounds of snail bait. I am not going to poison my soil and myself because i am not cunning enough to keep the snails off my plants. Presently i am using diatomaceaous earth and it seems to work fairly well. Here are a selection of Hemerocallis growing in Austin. I have a neighbor who grows 200 varieties, which tells you there are quite a few that will grow here.
