As
winter approaches we will start to see a lot of South African daisies in the
nurseries. The cool fall season is a good time to get a jump on planting these
asters for a good winter display. Since many of these plants are from the Cape
Province of South Africa they need a cool dry Mediterranean type growing condition.
I like to grow them in a shady area for summer and then when the leaves fall
of my oak trees and the sun drops in the sky my south africans get more sun.
Watering in the summer is the biggest problem because it is easy to over water
them and then they rot. Most people will usually buy these plants in the fall
and let them die in the summer and just grow them as annuals. It is possible
to grow them from seed but i have never had any luck at this.
